Pharmaceutical companies require occupational hygiene experts with specialised training to address the industry’s complex hazard recognition and control needs. OHTA partnered with the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI) and senior pharmaceutical IH/OH professionals to prepare this course specifically designed for the industry.
 

Specialist

OHTA1002 course has been developed to provide the student with a sound understanding of the occupational health hazards, risks and controls associated with manufacturing in the pharmaceutical industry, with particular focus on Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs).

The Course is designed to be delivered as an on-line or classroom training programme as well as a student examination based on multi-choice questions. Course trainers must be certified and/or experienced occupational hygienists working in the pharmaceutical industry with over 5 years’ experience to be able to provide their own knowledge and experiences to enhance the quality of the course. All Course Directors must be approved by OHTA to teach the course. The Course Directors can select trainers to present their company courses.

Aims

The OHTA1002 specialist course equips participants with knowledge they can use and share with onsite OHS generalists and management to raise awareness of health hazards, risk management, control strategies, and to comply with legal requirements in the pharmaceutical industry.

You will learn about

On successful completion of this module the student will understand:

  • hazards of APIS and associated materials
  • processes and technologies in primary and secondary manufacturing
  • hazard assessment and communication
  • exposure assessment: qualitative and quantitative sampling methods
  • exposure control: engineered containment; maintenance; verification testing; use of RPE and PPE
  • control banding
  • management of occupational hygiene
  • safe handling of hazardous drugs by end users.
