OHTA is delighted to announce that its application to become a charity has recently been approved by the UK Charity Commission.
OHTA’s registered charity number is 1168722 and details can be found here or by searching on the Charity Commission website, www.charitycommission.gov.uk.
The organisation’s charitable object is confirmed as:
“To protect and promote the health of the public by advancing the study and science of occupational/industrial hygiene for the public benefit through the provision of training and education.”
Charitable status brings a number of benefits including increased public recognition and trust as well as tax relief. Organisations must also meet the Charity Commission’s financial requirements to ensure long-term sustainability.
Speaking on behalf of all the trustees, Roger Alesbury, Chair, said “This is fantastic news and a real step forward for OHTA. While we have always been a not-for-profit organisation, the achievement of charitable status in the UK is a boost to our activities and reinforces our mission to promote better standards of occupational hygiene practice throughout the world.”
Since 2010 more than 6000 candidates have taken OHTA courses across the globe. OHTA’s partners include training providers, employers, universities and national occupational hygiene associations.
