Network of Occupational Hygienists in Africa (NOHA)

A Landmark Day for Occupational Hygiene in Africa!

OHTA would like to congratulate the members of the Network of Occupational Hygienists in Africa (NOHA), and have shared their first media post “Today, we are incredibly proud to announce the official launch of the Network of Occupational Hygienists in Africa (NOHA), a first of its kind on this continent! NOHA is a pioneering body dedicated to championing the health and well-being of workforce across Africa.

This launch represents more than the start of a new organization; it’s the beginning of a movement that takes Occupational Hygiene beyond the limited scope it has been relegated to within Africa.

For years, many of us have worked to protect the health of Africa’s workforce, often in isolation. Today, that changes.

NOHA was born from a shared vision: to create a collaborative, continent-wide platform for every professional dedicated to anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace hazards. NOHA will be bringing together experts on industrial hygiene across Africa’s biggest industries; Agriculture, Construction, Mining, and Oil & Gas, and working towards creating policies that protect every single person across the workforce in these spaces, both formal and informal work.

Our mission is to connect expertise with policy holders, share knowledge, collaborate, and drive outcomes to elevate the standards of occupational hygiene across every nation on this continent. We believe that by working together, we can create a future where every African worker can return home safe and healthy at the end of each day.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to our esteemed international partners at the International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA), Nancy Wilk, MHSc, CIH, ROH, FAIHA, Dooyong Park, Dr Sharann Johnson AM, FAIOH, COH, Rene Leblanc, Chimiste, M.Sc., ROH and to every single person who joined our virtual launch today. Seeing your faces, a powerful representation of hygienists from across Africa and the globe, was a strong reminder of what we can and in fact, need to achieve together.

This is just the beginning. We invite you to join us, to connect with us, and to be a part of this vital network. Together, we are stronger”
