Course Overview
Aims
- The course aims to provide specialist information relating to processes and workplace situations. It includes guidance on the hazards of metals and minerals as well as common process chemicals. There are a variety of other hazards on mine sites for example noise, radiation gauges, NORMS, thermal and Legionella, and the course aims to provide a basic knowledge for students.
- Guidance is included on monitoring strategies, risk assessments, how to interpret results and statistical analyses.
- Improve awareness of other occupational health issues associated with workers living in remote locations associated with mine sites.
You will learn about
- Identify the hazards associated with different mining and metal extractions processes, the types of health risk assessments which are appropriate, and often required by local mining authorities.
- Select appropriate control strategies in these complex work environments based on the hierarchy of control.
- Also learn about occupational health issues which are associated with mining in remote locations such as tropical diseases, fatigue and potable water.
