Course Overview

Understanding the health risks associated with workplace exposures is essential, but effective occupational hygiene practice also requires the ability to evaluate those risks objectively. The OHTA506 Ergonomics Essentials course provides delegates with a practical understanding of ergonomics principles and their application within the workplace to improve health, safety, wellbeing and performance.

This internationally recognised course explores the interaction between people, tasks, equipment and the working environment. Delegates will develop the knowledge required to identify ergonomic risk factors, assess workplace tasks and contribute to the design of healthier and more efficient work systems. The skills gained are increasingly valued across industries seeking to reduce injury risks and optimise employee performance.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course delegates should be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamental principles of ergonomics.
  2. Identify common ergonomic risk factors in the workplace.
  3. Understand the relationship between work design and human performance.
  4. Recognise factors contributing to musculoskeletal disorders.
  5. Apply basic ergonomic assessment techniques.
  6. Evaluate workplace tasks for ergonomic risks.
  7. Recommend practical interventions to improve workplace design and reduce risk.
  8. Understand the role of ergonomics within occupational health and safety programmes.

Delegates who successfully achieve these outcomes will be better equipped to contribute to workplace improvement initiatives that support both worker wellbeing and organisational performance.

Course Format

This five-day instructor-led course combines theoretical instruction, practical examples, workplace case studies and interactive discussions. Learning is structured to progressively build understanding, enabling delegates to connect ergonomic principles with real workplace challenges.

The course emphasises practical application, encouraging delegates to consider how ergonomic improvements can positively influence health outcomes, productivity and overall workplace effectiveness.
